Deep Root Fertilization
Root-zone nutrient injection for stressed, valuable, and newly planted trees.
What makes deep root fertilization work here.
Root-zone fertilization that delivers nutrients, organic matter, and soil support where Park City trees can use them.
Deep Root Fertilization
Deep root fertilization, also called deep root feeding or root-zone injection, delivers nutrients, organic matter, and sometimes soil amendments directly into the soil where feeder roots are active. Instead of broadcasting fertilizer on the surface and waiting for irrigation to move it down, Greenleaf uses a probe to place a liquid or slurry blend into the root zone.
For many Park City trees, that active feeder-root layer is roughly 3 to 12 inches deep, depending on soil, species, compaction, moisture, and grade. Injections are typically spaced in a grid pattern every 2 to 3 feet under the canopy and out toward the dripline so the treatment reaches the area the tree is actually using.
Greenleaf checks the tree, the root-zone conditions, and the watering pattern before making a recommendation. A stressed aspen near a driveway, a blue spruce on a windy slope, and a newly planted ornamental can all need different support. For newly planted trees, we may also recommend an organic-based option such as Milorganite when it fits the planting plan and watering schedule.
What we look at
- Property size and access
- Tree species, canopy density, and recent growth
- Pest symptoms, drought stress, and seasonal timing
- Irrigation, soil compaction, and root-zone moisture
- Newly planted tree needs and establishment stress
- Organic-based fertilizer options such as Milorganite
- Safety risks and nearby structures
